MAGDIR is a working group of Australian Government agencies who have an obligation to manage digital information resources for enduring access. By working together the group will explore how Australian Government digital information agencies can maximise their combined expertise to progress the following objective:
Australian Government information resources in digital form are controlled, managed and preserved so as to permit their ongoing and reliable use by government and the community for as long as needed.
Government digital information resources include:
- Databases
- Datasets (spatial, statistical, research, etc.)
- Digitised and digital photographs, maps, books reports, etc
- Electronic documents (reports, presentations, forms, correspondence, etc.)
- Electronic publications (online or physical format e.g. CD-ROMS)
- Electronic records (in HR, ERMS, CMS, etc.)
- Multi-media material (text, audio, video, etc.)
- Software
- Web pages and online content
Government agencies invest considerable resources creating and managing digital information. Cross-sector collaboration is the economic key to protecting our digital assets for short, medium and long term access.
