1. FreeAustralian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)

Australian Bureau of Statistics: The ABS website provides statistics on the following themes: economy; environment and energy; industry; people; and regions. Included are statistical publications on agriculture, demography, census, finance, labour, manufacturing, national accounts, prices, service industries, social trends, trade and transport. Electronic copies of ABS publications and related statistical tables are free to any member of the public with Internet access. Also provides access to a growing collection of historical statistics. Year Book Australia is available under Historical Releases, then select Historical Publications Online

2. FreeAustralian Data Archive

Australian Data Archive: The Australian Data Archive (ADA) provides a national service for the collection and preservation of digital research data and makes these data available for secondary analysis by academic researchers and other users. Contains seven sub archives: Social Science, Historical (including Australian census data), Indigenous, Longitudinal, Qualitative, Crime & Justice and International. All visitors can browse and search the catalogue, view study and variable documentation (including frequencies) and download related material (questionnaires, codebooks, etc). Registered users can also analyse and visualise most data online and users who have completed the relevant undertaking form(s) can download entire studies or subsets of variables in a range of formats.

Rapid Intelligence: This site provides an interface for comparing national statistics in graphical formats. Statistics are sourced from organisations such as the CIA World Factbook, United Nations, World Health Organization, World Bank, World Resources Institute, UNESCO, UNICEF and the OECD.

4. FreeScreen Australia: Industry statistics, strategy and research

Screen Australia: This resource provides access to comprehensive statistics on the production and release of Australian feature films, TV drama and documentaries. It also provides information on audiovisual markets, co-production partners and comparison indicators of feature film production for Australia and over 50 other countries.

5. FreeUNdata

United Nations: A single entry point for accessing all United Nations statistical services. Includes links to country data services. Covers a wide range of themes including Agriculture, Crime, Education, Employment, Energy, Environment, Health, HIV/AIDS, Human Development, Industry, Information and Communication Technology, National Accounts, Population, Refugees, Tourism, Trade, and the Millennium Development Goals indicators.
