Australian Bureau of Statistics: The ABS website provides statistics on the following themes: economy; environment and energy; industry; people; and regions. Included are statistical publications on agriculture, demography, census, finance, labour, manufacturing, national accounts, prices, service industries, social trends, trade and transport. Electronic copies of ABS publications and related statistical tables are free to any member of the public with Internet access. Also provides access to a growing collection of historical statistics.

Australian Bureau of Statistics: CDATA96 combines data from the 1996 Australian Census of Population and Housing with digital maps, using MapInfo Professional, a powerful spatial information management system. In addition to statistical data, CDATA96 contains digital statistical boundaries and base map data, and software to produce tables, maps and graphs of the data.

Australian Bureau of Statistics: CLib96 is a CD-ROM product which contains tabulated census data, with software that allows access, display, printing but not downloading of the data. CLib96 contains an extensive range of 1996 census data and was made available in three stages, with the final release covering all of the 1996 community profiles and the state and capital city classification counts. Australian Bureau of Statistics: CLIB 2001 is a CD-ROM product which contains tabulated census data, with software that allows access, display, printing and aggregation of the data with drill down mapping functionality. It is produced from the data captured by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in the 2001 census of population and housing.

Peripheral Systems ; Australian Bureau of Statistics: CMAP91 is a software and CD-ROM resident data product which provides a digital atlas of Australian census boundaries and topography. It is based on MapInfo, Desktop Mapping software and provides a diverse range of functions for displaying, manipulating and printing maps.

7. FreeGlobal Health Facts

Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation: GlobalHealthFacts.org, a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, provides free, up-to-date and easy-to-access data by country on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other key health and socio-economic indicators. The data are displayed in tables, charts, and color-coded maps and can be downloaded for custom analyses. GlobalHealthFacts.org is a companion site to GlobalHealthReporting.org, a project operated by the Foundation with major support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Data can be sorted by country, topic or create customized data sheets.

8. FreeInternational Data Base: World Statistics

U.S. Census Bureau: The International Data Base (IDB) is a computerized data bank containing statistical tables of demographic, economic, and social data for all countries of the world. The Summary Data section allows you to click on the name of a country and view vital statistics (birth rate, death rate, growth rate, infant mortality rate, fertility rate, life expectancy), and population estimates and projections (for 1950 to 2050). You may also download the database and software to use the database. There is more information here than in the summary data, and provisions are available for generating tables, maps, graphs, charts, and lotus spreadsheets.

Rapid Intelligence: This site provides an interface for comparing national statistics in graphical formats. Statistics are sourced from organisations such as the CIA World Factbook, United Nations, World Health Organization, World Bank, World Resources Institute, UNESCO, UNICEF and the OECD.

10. FreeOzGuide to Statistics

A subject guide to Australian and international statistical resources on the internet. The resources record mostly current data, but some historical statistics are also included. There are substantial links to Australian Bureau of Statistics resources, and international statistics by country or region through Offstats and UNESCO Statistical Databases. Topics covered include economic and trade statistics, population, education, census data, health statistics and links to statistical agencies.

The Library holds many resources relating to both Australian and international statistics. These statistics cover all subject areas including demography, economics, industry and trade and represent both current and historical data. This guide contains selected print and microfilm works only.
