National Archives (Great Britain): The National Archives is the UK government's official archive, containing over 1,000 years of history. The collection contains over 11 million historical government and public records and is one of the largest in the world, containing paper and parchment, electronic records and websites, photographs, posters, maps, drawings and paintings. The catalogue is available to search online.

National Archives of Australia: The records in the collection of the National Archives of Australia trace the events and decisions that shaped the nation. Papers of Governors-General, Prime Ministers and Ministers are held as well as Cabinet documents, Royal Commission files and departmental records on defence, immigration, security and intelligence, naturalisation, and many other issues involving the federal government. The main focus is on records created since the formation of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. There are also some nineteenth-century records relating to functions that were transferred by the colonies to the Commonwealth government, including shipping and post offices. Most records in the collection are files, but there are also significant holdings of photographs, posters, maps, architectural drawings, films, playscripts, musical scores and sound recordings.

National Film and Sound Archive: The National Film and Sound Archive is the national audiovisual archive for Australia. The Archive preserves and shares Australia's moving images and sound recordings from the first film images to the modern classics. The catalogue of the Archive is available to search online.

National Geographic Society: The NGS Publications Index includes broad subject indexing to NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC plus many other NGS magazines, books, films and videos, educational products, map products, interactive features, and newsletters produced by the National Geographic Society. For full text of articles or books, you can purchase them at a National Geographic Store or visit your local library. Some selected articles are also available online for free.

5. FreeNational Register of Archives (Great Britain)

National Archives (Great Britain): The NRA is a central point for the collection and dissemination of information about the nature and location of manuscripts relating to British history. It consists of over 44,000 unpublished lists and catalogues that describe archival holdings in the United Kingdom and overseas. The website provices online access to lists and catalogues which have been indexed according to corporate bodies, persons and families.

Newcastle City Council: A subject index to the Newcastle Herald, the Newcastle (NSW) newspaper since the 1860's containing valuable information about the development of the Newcastle area. The index has been compiled by the Newcastle Region Library and provides access to over 160,000 articles of local significance for the years 1869-1943.

State Records Authority of New South Wales: The Archives Resources Kit (ARK) produced by the State Records Authority of New South Wales contains microfilm copies of their most popular and heavily used colonial records. Included are records to do with convict arrivals, assisted immigrants, births deaths and marriages, publicans licences, electoral rolls, naturalisation records, returns of the colony, land grants and records relating to the Colonial Secretary 91788-1825). All microfilm is held by the National Library.
