Series 9: Photographs,
c.1880s-c.1950s

This series consists of a small collection of photographs, postcards and miscellaneous folio items. Most of the photographs are of family or friends and are unidentified and undated. Family photographs include a studio portrait of Adolf Bartels, Sallie Heysen's father (c.1890s); Hans and Sallie Heysen with Josephine and Freya (1908); the Heysen children (c.1920s); Josephine Heysen on a horse (c.1930s); Hans, Sallie and Nora Heysen in Llandudno, Wales (c.1934); a portrait of Hans Heysen (n.d.) and David Heysen with his small son Peter at 'Derrymore'.

Photographs of friends include Lionel Lindsay, n.d. and Arthur Streeton, 1937. There is also a 1948 Christmas card from Harold Cazneaux containing an image of Surrey Hills taken in 1906 and a 1961 Christmas letter from Will Ashton, with an accompanying photograph.

Miscellaneous folio items include a portrait of James Bateman (1935); photographs of artworks by Bateman; a letter to Hans Heysen from W. Blamire Young written on a piece of cardboard and a draft of a speech by Hans Heysen, also written on a piece of cardboard.
