Asia Research Forum

NATIONAL LIBRARY ASIA RESEARCH FORUM, 24 OCTOBER 2005

The National Library is pleased to announce its Asia Research Forum, to be held on Monday 24 October 2005, at the National Library in Canberra.

The Forum will bring together library collection managers, researchers and all those with an interest in the study of Asia. With the theme of current trends in Asia-based research in our region, it will highlight new areas of multidisciplinary research and information dissemination. Roundtable discussions will explore what libraries are doing to support scholars of both the traditional and the 'new' Asian studies.

Keynote speakers will be Professor John Fitzgerald, Director, International Centre of Excellence for Asian Studies; Dr Louise Edwards, Convenor, Asia Pacific Futures Research Networks Project, ANU; and Professor Vera Mackie, ARC Professorial Fellow, Department of History, University of Melbourne.

The programme will include presentations from researchers highlighting current research topics and innovative information dissemination. An overview of current 'digital Asia' resources will be presented, including digital projects, e-repositories, licensed products and free Internet resources. Recent developments in library cooperation will be highlighted and new areas for collaboration will be discussed. Roundtable discussion between speakers and participants will be a feature of the day, with audience contribution encouraged.

Registration is free, but numbers are limited. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

Registrations for the Asia Research Forum on 24 October are now closed.
