Malaysian, Philippine & Singapore Collections
The Collections
The combined collections of Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore consists of some 19,000 books and pamphlets, 2,000 newspaper and journal titles, microforms and maps. The Library holds quite strong holdings of materials on all three countries from the period before their independence to the present day.
Other collection strengths lie in the coverage of the pre-Independence periods, for which are found government records and newspapers of the time. Formed collections acquired from scholars have also enriched the Library's holdings, of which the Luce, Coedes and Braga collections are of particular relevance.
New titles are added to the Philippines collection through a general order which the Library maintains with a supplier in Manila, and two formed collections acquired from scholars have also enriched our holdings in this area.
The first of these, the Beyer collection on the history and sociology of the Philippines, consists of some 2,000 monographs and a large collection of ethnographic studies in manuscript form. These have been copied onto microfiche. A list of manuscripts on fiche is available on request, and orders may be placed for the fiche copies.
The other formed collection, known as the Philippine collection, was acquired from two scholars, Goldenberg and Villanueva. This collection consists of approximately 3,000 items relating to the political and legal history of the Philippines in the19th century.
