South Asian Collections

The National Library has an extensive collection of English language material from South Asia. The Library has more than 50,000 monograph titles, and a number of current serial and newspaper titles. The major part of the collection relates to India though the Library has significant holdings from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The Library also has a strong coverage of retrospective material on India.

1. From Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives, and Bangladesh, the Library collects significant English language books and periodicals covering statistical, political, economic and cultural topics.

2. Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Library receives English language monographs through blanket orders in both countries, plus current newspapers and serial titles through subscription and exchange.

3. India. The Library is acquiring English language material for the building of a broad based collection including major reference sources, works of important authors, publications from government bodies and scholarly organizations and a selection of representative journals and newspapers.

Services

Readers visiting the National Library may discuss their requirements with the staff in the Asian Collections Reading Room on the Third floor of the National Library which is open to readers from 9.00am to 4.45pm Monday to Friday. All material pertaining to South Asian countries is accessible through the Main Reading Room.

The Library's online catalogue is available and includes records for South Asian holdings.
