Indonesian Acquistions Program
The Indonesian Acquisitions Program was established by the National Library of Australia in 1971 with the aim of acquiring a broad range of government and non-government publications for the National Library and a number of participating university libraries. The export book trade in Indonesia has not yet developed sufficiently to support extensive dealings with overseas customers, and an in-country presence is necessary to obtain the full range of titles currently sought by Australian users. Research level materials are sought in most subject areas and from all regions of Indonesia. This includes monographs, serials and newspapers, all of which are regularly air-freighted to Australia. The libraries currently participating in the Indonesian Acquisitions Program are:
- Australian Defence Force Academy, A.C.T.
- Australian National University, A.C.T.
- The British Library
- Flinders University of South Australia
- Monash University, Victoria
- Murdoch University, Western Australia
- National Library of Australia
- National Library Board Singapore
- School of Oriental and African Studies Library, University of London
Arrangement and Content of Entries
Each issue of the IAL details all items included in the most recent consignments despatched from the Regional Office.
New serial titles acquired for the National Library's collections during the period are listed alphabetically in the first section. Monographs acquired for both the National Library and participants form the second section, with entries arranged within broad subject classes. The appendix lists the serial and newspaper titles which are despatched to the National Library in Canberra twice weekly, so that the most recent issues are available for use in the Library's reading rooms promptly. There is no index to the Indonesian Acquisitions List.
Use of the Library's Indonesian Collection
All items listed in the IAL are fully catalogued onto Kinetica, the national database of material held in Australian libraries, and can be searched on the Library's online catalogue at: http://www.nla.gov.au/catalogue/. Material in the Indonesian Collection may be consulted in both the Library's Main Reading Room and the Asian Collections Reading Room. Remote users may request material on interlibrary loan. Requests to borrow material from the collection should be made through the interlibrary loan service in your library. Interlibrary loan requests should include full bibliographic details of the items plus the National Library call number.
