A number of major Australian newspaper titles are due to be digitised and made available online by mid-July 2010

The Australian Newspapers Digitisation Program here at the Library is digitising and making available online a number of Australian newspapers.   Today there are 1,439,766 pages consisting of 17,426,935 articles available to search and browse at http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper Over the next few months the Program will be reaching some major milestones with completion of a number of important newspaper titles including:

·         Brisbane Courier 1864 to 1933

·         The Argus 1849 to 1954 (all out of copyright issues)

·         The Mercury (Tasmania) 1860 to 1954 (all out of copyright issues)

·         Sydney Morning Herald 1831 to 1954 (all out of copyright issues)

 

In addition The Queenslander (1866-1939), which has been primarily funded by The Centre for Government, Queensland will be completed.  The full list of newspaper titles which we will be digitising and making available through until mid 2011 is available at http://www.nla.gov.au/ndp/selected_newspapers/documents/ANDP_Titlesselectedmainlist_Nov_2009_000.pdf
