Over 7 Million newspaper pages delivered
Trove hits another milestone
18 June 2012
In amongst the processes of finalising our various contracts for the 2011-12 financial year, working on finalising the details of content for 2012-13, the fact that we’ve delivered the 7 Millionth newspaper page almost slipped my notice! As a reflection of the efforts of the team, up to March this year, we’ve delivered over 1.5 million pages, the content from which (to my mind at least) continues to be varied and interesting. Some highlights for me from this last year include the emphasis on WW1 titles (as we approach the centenary of the War), the delivery of The Dawn Magazine (the first feminist newspaper), and our investigations into the digitisation and delivery of non-English language newspapers (in Estonian, Italian and German languages). The latter has not come without some birthing pains, but we’ve learned a whole lot about some of the challenges that are involved in this, and it would be exciting to see even more diversity in our newspapers!
The Dawn magazine
Stay tuned for the release of details of titles that have been identified for digitisation in 2012-13 (It looks like there are approximateley 80 new titles to come), and content contributed from a range of organisations, including the Melbourne Library Services, the Stonnington History Centre, and a consortia of eleven NSW libraries (supporting digitisation of the Cumberland Argus).
