About the Preservation blog

The Preservation Blog provides a glimpse of how the National Library of Australia preserves and maintains the life of its ever growing, rich and diverse collection. We have a great team of conservators and bookbinders who work on preserving the collection, getting it ready for digitisation, exhibitions and general access.  This blog informs you of how we identify the media and substrate of an item, the problems that we encounter and the treatments that we undertake. It also looks at how we display items and the best way to house and store the collection so that it is accessible to everyone. We hope that you find this an interesting insight into what goes on ‘behind the scenes’.
