This guide explains step by step how to request a newspaper.
Refer to the How to Search the Catalogue for Newspapers guide for basic search techniques.
Follow the steps below to request a newspaper:
- Go to the National Library of Australia Catalogue.
-
Select the title and microform or Journal/Newspaper option using the drop down arrows and click on Find button (as shown below).
- Choose the relevant catalogue record from the results that appear on the screen by clicking on the title.
- Check newspaper dates held by referring to the Items/Issues Held listed at the bottom of the screen.
- Confirm if a request is needed by checking the Collect From column. For example if the message "Newspaper Reading Room Reference Coll - No request required" appears this means the item is available from the Newspapers and Microforms Reading Room on open access so no request is needed.
- If a request is required, click on the Get this button located at the bottom of the screen.
- Once the Login screen is displayed enter your User ID (located at the back of your Reader Card) and Last Name in the box and click on the Login tab.
- Fill in the appropriate details of the item you want such as month and year. The figure given in the Year box needs to be in a four number format as shown in the example below.
- If you wish to reserve an item (held for five days) click in the Reserve Item box so a tick appears. Items not reserved will only be held for one day.
- If you would like to request items for out of Newspapers and Micorforms Reading Room hours use in the Main Reading Room, please specify "YES MRR" in the Notes box.
- Select the Submit my Request button to complete your request.
- Check your requests by clicking on the Requests button located on top right of screen.
- Click on Log Out button once you have finished.
