Finding what you want
All of the Library's newspaper titles are listed on the Library's catalogue. To find specific newspaper articles, you will need to check a newspaper index. Indexes and full-text online databases are available on the pcs in the Reading Room.
To access the daily versions of Australian newspapers on the Internet, check Australian Newspapers Online.
Using the newspapers and microforms reading room
The latest issues of over 50 Australian and overseas newspapers are available in the Reading Room, as well as over 20 popular titles (mostly Australian) on microfilm. These titles are all on open access and you may browse through these.
If the title or issue you are looking for is not in the Reading Room, you will need to check the library catalogue for holdings and call number details. For each title required, complete a call slip available at the Newspapers and Microforms Reading Room Information Desk. Please ask the staff if you need assistance.
All other material is in the stack area. You will need to search the catalogue and submit a call slip to the staff member. The material will be retrieved for you. Delivery time for material on microfilm and most Australian print items is usually within 30 minutes.
Overseas newspapers in print format, published prior to 1997 are housed at the Library's warehouse and retrieval may take two hours, or possibly longer.
Where a title is held in both printed and microform versions, the Library's policy is that the microform is used for most purposes, in order to preserve the original.
