Formed Collection

Jesuit Collection (Society of Jesus)

The Library's purchase in 1971 of a Jesuit Collection of 8,200 volumes added great depth to its collections which included the Braga Collection and the Clifford Collection, both containing a strong Jesuit content.

The collection, containing many pre-1800 imprints, contains important bibliographical, historical and reference works. It also contains works on Jesuit missionary activity, the Spiritual Exercises and internal government of the Society, and liturgical studies. Works in the collection include those of the leading Catholic and Jesuit writers of the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, and deal with many of the controversies of the time.
