How to request for official visits...

  • Requests for official visits to the National Library are required to be submitted in writing. The Library requires 5 weeks' notice of proposed arrival date to allow sufficient time to prepare a detailed program, and for overseas visitors to obtain visas where necessary.
  • For visitors from overseas: your online/printed request must be accompanied by an official letter signed by the head of your organisation. The letter should be addressed to the Director-General, National Library of Australia, Parkes Place, Canberra ACT 2600.
  • You may submit your request online, or by printing off and completing the PDF form. The completed form and accompanying letter, as noted above, should be sent to the Overseas Visits Officer, Dale Forrest, email: dforrest@nla.gov.au or fax: +61 2 6273 1133.
  • Your online request will be acknowledged immediately; faxed or emailed requests will be acknowledged within 48 hours. Please note that it is an acknowledgement only. Written approval, or otherwise, of the visit will follow within one week.
