Sounds of the soul: the traditional music of East Timor.
Book launch and author talk
Sounds of the soul: the traditional music of East Timor by Dr Ros Dunlop.
Author and musician Ros Dunlop made her first trip to Timor-Leste (East Timor) in 2002, performing concerts in remote villages. Enchanted by Timor-Leste’s land, people and culture – especially its traditional music – and wanting to give something in return, Ros began visiting Timor-Leste regularly to record this special music. After 10 years of collaborative research and field recording, she has published the first book on the traditional music of Timor Leste, Lian husi klamar: sounds of the soul.. This unique work is beautifully illustrated, and has an accompanying CD-ROM and DVD. Join Ros for the Canberra launch of her book and a talk with music and images on East Timor’s musical heritage. Copies of her book will be on sale.
