Do You Speak American? Out West (2008, 60 min, G)

Robert MacNeil (The MacNeil/Lehrer Hour) heads to California to have meaningful dialogues on the development of American sub-languages: Spanglish, Chicano, Ebonics and “Surfer Dude.”  Also explored are why teens create their own language, gay self-empowerment and whether technology will reinforce or weaken racial/regional stereotypes.  Some language may be offensive.
