Relics, ethics and addicts
A workshop addressing market influences on a rare book today.
This workshop is geared towards library professionals who would like to gain a better understanding of the international market for rare books.
Rare books often travel the world as objects of desire for collectors, librarians and dealers. In recent years, the market for the rare book has become increasingly transparent. Old codes are now used alongside new practices; challenges have arisen for all parties involved.
For institutions, it may be especially interesting to pause for a moment and survey old habits and recent changes in the open market for rare books.
See www.relicsethicsandaddicts.com for a complete course description.
There are still some places available. If you are interested in participating, please email Ernst Spek (ernst.spek@gmail.com) or Natasha Herman (natasha.herman@gmailcom).
If you are unable to participate on 9-10 March 2010 in Canberra, please let us know. We actively try to combine individual enquiries, which may result in a second (back-to-back) workshop held in Australia or New Zealand.
