In his latest work, Professor James Cotton reviews and expounds the ideas of eight thinkers who were principal members of the early Australian 'school' of international relations in the period from 1920 to 1960. Each helped initiate the formal academic study of international relations, made extensive contributions to policy and, through their membership, developed a complex network of personal and professional relationships.

Join Professor James Cotton and President of the Tasmanian branch of the Australian Institute of International Affairs Emeritus Professor Peter Boyce AO, who will officially launch The Australian School of International Relations.

BOOK LAUNCH - Underground Australia by Michael McKernan

Join author Michael McKernan as he discusses his new book Underground Australia. In the bowels of a Sydney pub, the publican poses with his hand in chains: a reminder of the time when the underground store was a convict cell. A family, thrown out of home during the Great Depression, sets up house in a cave. Women sort mushrooms in a disused railway tunnel in the 1950s; a jazz band rehearses beneath the Royal George Hotel. With images by some of the country's bestknown photographers, including Jeff Carter, Wolfgang Sievers and Frank Hurley, Underground Australia will take you on a journey to an amazing hidden world.
