Make a Bunyip

This activity links to the National Profiles, Level 3, Technology.

Materials:

Paper
Pencils
Colouring-in materials
Range of building materials: clay, plasticine, paddlepop sticks, bark, etc.

Brainstorm as many ideas as possible for what might make a successful bunyip. Would a bunyip have claws, flippers, big eyes, little eyes, HUGE teeth, fur, feathers, scales, etc. Read stories about bunyips as stimulus material and discuss habitat, what are their eating habits, sleeping etc.

Design a bunyip. Using 2-D materials, design the bunyip from two or three perspectives, identifying materials to be used. Students should be able to describe why certain materials were chosen and why design decisions were made.

Build the bunyip using materials provided from the plans.

Display the bunyips and plans together.
