Collections Relating to Harold Cazneaux
The Cazneaux Collection is one of the National
Library's most important
Pictorial
collections. It comprises 272 exhibition prints, 4,000 glass negatives and
200 working photographs in the Cazneaux Reference Collection. The first
consignment of exhibition prints was donated to the Library by the daughters of
Harold Cazneaux in 1974. Individual photographs were donated later and in 1983,
200 photographs now known as the Cazneaux Reference Collection were received.
In 1991 the Cazneaux family donated a large collection of Harold Cazneaux's
glass negatives, to be use for reference and research. The Cazneaux family has
also given the Library invaluable assistance in dating and captioning the
photographs, which span the years 1910-1940.
The Library also has a collection of
Cazneaux's papers in the Manuscript
Collection as well many printed works about Cazneaux and his work. Details
for all catalogued items in the National Library's collection may be obtained
from the NLA Catalogue.
Access to material in the special collections
is possible through the Pictorial and
Manuscript reading rooms. A selection of the
exhibition prints have also been made available through an online version of
the exhibition Harold Cazneaux Photographs .
