Australian choreographers have always been fascinated by Australian themes.
They have taken inspiration from the landscape, city life, stories of struggle
and exploration, literature, nationalistic myths and legends, and from the
country’s Indigenous peoples and cultures.

only audiences for Aboriginal dance. That situation has been transformed.
Traditional dances are now being toured and choreographers of Aboriginal
descent are making theatrical works based on their Indigenous heritage
for showing in Australia and overseas.
