| Although
women still wore corsets and long, heavy skirts, and men high collars and
ties while exercising, participation in sport increased dramatically from
the 1890s. The popularity of tennis, golf and cycling led to the introduction
of more comfortable clothing for both men and women. For example, until
the introduction by British company Burbury of their special golfing jacket
with its "pivot" sleeves, women were forced to play on cutdown courses because
their tight coats hampered their swing. |
