These two charts, T'Zuijd Landt ontdeckt door Willem de Vlaming, are by Gerard van Keulen, and are most important cartographical documents relating to Vlamingh's voyages. The charts are very detailed and were drawn directly from Vlamingh's own charts made during his voyages and held in the VOC's (Dutch East India Company) secret archives. They are in fact one continuous chart divided on two sheets, covering the Western Australian coast from 32°50' to 21°27' south. An inset of Rottnest Island is included, and extensive text describing Rottnest Island, the Swan River, and other features seen by Vlamingh in the months of January and February 1697. On it, Vlamingh indicates the generally harsh nature of the land and islands he charted, and formed a basis for his unfavourable report to the VOC leadership.
