The Artists

Raphael T. Roussel (1883–1967)

Roussel was the son of Theodore Roussel, French painter and etcher. After studying at Kennington Art School, London, he worked as both a portrait painter and commercial artist before World War I. He exhibited at British galleries between 1908 and 1929, establishing his reputation with the construction of dioramas, first displayed in the British Empire Exhibition in 1926 and subsequently used in museums throughout the world.
