Ronald
Clayton Skate (b.1913)
Although
Ronald Skate had no formal art training, he studied privately with
John Stirlow and Max Meldrum. He worked as a painter, sculptor,
and illustrator and designed and produced architectural bas-reliefs.
During his extensive overseas travels, he worked as a freelance
illustrator for leading magazines in London.
Skate
was both a guest lecturer in design at the Royal Melbourne Institute
of Technology and a foundation member and president of the Art Directors'
Club, Melbourne. He was also a member of the Victorian Artists'
Society and the Australian Guild of Realist Artists.
He
exhibited in England and Australia.
