	<p>After they gained the right to vote in 1902, a group of Australian women involved in the Australian suffrage campaign visited Britain and became committed to the cause of their British sisters. These women became an integral part of the movement and wholeheartedly embraced British militancy. They were a far cry from &#8216;shrieking cockatoos&#8217;, as one Australian politician described them.</p>

	<p>Dr Bijon is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English and American Studies at the University of Saint-Etienne/Lyon in France.</p>

	<p>Trove won the 2011 Excellence in eGovernment Award as well as the Service Delivery Category Award for harnessing digital technology to improve service delivery.</p>
