Third Battle of Krithia
On 4 June, as allied troops at Helles continued to suffer under the severe fire from Turkish troops at the prominent Achi Baba hill behind Krithia, General Hamilton ordered another attack to take Krithia. In preparation, Major General Hunter-Weston had undertaken a series of four small night raids throughout May 1915 (on 18, 23, 24 and 27), taking allied troops forward almost another kilometre, with minimum casualties. The full-scale attack on 4 June was launched in two waves with the objective of first capturing and then passing over the Turkish line. Allied forces made some early gains, with the British getting to within a kilometre of Krithia. Failure on the flanks meant the Turks were effectively able to repulse the attack.
