Australian Institute of Family Studies

An independent statutory authority which originated in the Australian Family Law Act 1975. The Institute was established by the Commonwealth Government in February 1980 to promote the identification and understanding of factors affecting marital and family stability in Australia. It is located within the Department of Family and Community Services and reports to the Minister for Family and Community Services.
