The presentation will present an overview of how communication protocol standards (Z39.50 (Information Retrieval), Z39.83 (Circulation Interchange), ISO 10161 (Interlibrary Loan), X.500/LDAP (Directory Access)) and the current application profiles (IPIG Profile (for ILL), Bath (for Z39.50), NCIP application protocols such as Direct Consortial Borrowing and Circulation/Interlibrary Loan Interaction, and the information models for a Directory Service for Interlibrary Loan) can help manage communications between ILL partners. The presentation is illustrated by a scenario within the evolving Canadian resource-sharing environment and examples of the protocol messages that could be passed between the protocol-based applications.
