National Library of China (NLC) is the most comprehensive Chinese document delivery center in the world and the largest foreign document delivery base in China. With the backing of its rich collections, the library has been dedicated to document delivery services, taking it as one of its major functions, with efficiency and accuracy. Through our widely cooperation with libraries around the world, the library has acquired numerous documents from home and abroad for the users' urgent needs, thus it is well received. Now we are able to deliver documents via fax, email, Ariel and carrier in addition to airmail.

Because of the cooperation on resources developing and resources sharing in the library circles, and the introduction of online catalogue, full-text databases and electronic journals, the efficiency of document delivery is rising, the responding time is reduced; meanwhile the business document delivery services are expanding steadily. All in all, this will make interlibrary loan services an equal choice with circulation.

On August 2002 NLC introduced Alpha 500 system and has been putting all the modules into use gradually. This paper will present a general introduction to the changes and advances of the code of interlibrary loan of NLC, the fundamental conditions (network infrastructure, machine readable catalogues for holdings), interlibrary loan flow work, services, disposition of personnel under the new information technology environment, as well ass the relations between interlibrary loan and collection development, and the new techniques and measures adapted in the past few years.
