Resource sharing in scientific libraries at Italian National Research Council: the future of Document Delivery Services

Abstract

Scientific Libraries of Italian National Research Council are structures with experience and challenges in the area of interlending and document delivery that have relevance for both internal and external users. The Libraries located in Potenza (a little town in the south of Italy) and Genova (a big town in the north west of Italy) operates in a research environment that is committed to ensuring effective satisfaction for researchers, students, professors, employers to access the world of information.

Through the Web, users can retrieve the research information they need from any location in 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Although Web-based resources are very conveniently for researchers, the library located in Potenza and Genova decided to storage a large number of full-text journals for in-house needs and they develop a similar in-house digital library.

This paper investigates an understanding of collections, electronic access, user expectations and resources sharing necessary to meet the information needs of library users. The Potenza and Genova Scientific Libraries are committed to provide access to library resources through facilitating Document Delivery and they emploies both professional strategies and the librarian opportunities opened up by new technologies working in partnership with other organizations to menage a resource sharing cooperation structure.
