Resource sharing within the Pacific Islands region has seen significant developments in the past few years stemming from the widespread use of the Internet, electronic document delivery and emerging local resource sharing people and technology networks. This paper will discuss the role of the University of Guam in developing and supporting these local networks of people, technology and new innovations in document delivery. Cooperative programs to provide cost-free access to international networks and resources outside the Pacific Islands, as well as electronic document delivery projects within the Pacific Islands that have dramatically reduced time and expense will also be discussed. The paper will also elaborate on how some low-technology projects such as regional union lists and a directory of libraries, both designed to foster resource sharing throughout the region, were implemented. It will conclude with a discussion of challenges, lessons learned and directions for future growth.
