Arlene Cohen
Associate Professor, Circulation and Outreach Services Librarian, RFK Library, University of Guam

Arlene Cohen, an Associate Professor at the University of Guam, is the Circulation/Outreach Services Librarian at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Library. She holds a MLS from the University of Washington in Seattle, with an extensive background in resource sharing. Before moving to Micronesia from Seattle in 1987, she worked in a variety of settings at the University of Washington in support of resource sharing activities, including positions at the Pacific Northwest Bibliographic Center and the Pacific Northwest Regional Health Sciences Library.

At the University of Guam since 1990, she has been instrumental in developing the university's pivotal role in supporting regional resource sharing networks. She was involved in establishing the Pacific Islands Association of Libraries and Archives (PIALA) in 1990, holding several offices including President. Also active in IFLA, she is currently serving as the IFLA Management of Library Associations Section Secretary. Through the years, she has be involved in publishing resource sharing tools including the recent Union List of Serials in Pacific Islands Libraries (2002), and was just awarded an IFLA grant to publish an updated directory of libraries in the Pacific Islands. In 2001, she was an invited participant to the IFLA Core Program for Universal Availability of Publications / Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) First Pacific Community Workshop, in New Caledonia and is part of several working groups. She has presented papers throughout the world on her work with her most recent publication appearing in a 2002 issue of Interlending and Document Supply (Vol. 30:2)
