Louis Houle Head Serials and ILL/Document Delivery,
McGill University, Canada
Louis joined the McGill Libraries'
staff in 1990 as a reference librarian in the Schulich Library after having
spent one year in the Blacker-Wood Library on a temporary basis. Since 1997, he
has been head of the ILL/Document Delivery department, first in Schulich and
then assuming system-wide responsibility. He is always looking for new services
to improve the dissemination of information to the end-user. In December 2001,
he took on the position Head of Serials where he is responsible for providing
access to and maintenance of electronic resources, acquiring, organizing, and
ensuring ongoing access to a broad array of electronic resources. He serves as
an active member on several committees in the provincial consortium in the
areas of ILL, electronic access, consortium negotiations and licensing
agreements, and other topics. He has introduced a document delivery system at
McGill which has helped the libraries cope with the massive journal cuts in the
last few years. He works closely with faculty and students, giving seminars on
document delivery, as well as being the collections/liaison librarian for four
departments. |
