Copying and printing services
Equipment for copying Library collection material, for personal use, is available on a self-service basis in the Reading Rooms. Options include black and white or colour photocopies and printing from computers and microform scanners.
Personal copying equipment such as cameras, scanners and USBs may be used in some areas. Printing from wireless enabled laptops is not available.
When registering as a National Library reader, you will be issued with a Reader Card, which is used to pay for all self-service photocopying and printing.
Charging your Reader Card
Add money to your card at the Card Cashier machines which are located in the Main Reading Room, and in the Newspapers and Microforms Reading Room. The machines accept coins and notes, but do not give change. There is a change machine in the Main Reading Room in the alcove to the left of the Petherick Reading Room. Reader Cards may be charged as many times as you wish. To charge your card:
- Swipe your Reader Card at the Card Cashier
- The amount of money on your card will display
- Add coins and/or notes
- When finished, press the silver button
- Collect your receipt

Photocopying system
Photocopiers for use by readers are available in the Main, Petherick, Newspapers and Microforms and Asian Collections Reading Rooms. The colour photocopier is located in the Main Reading Room, in the photocopy alcove near the Petherick Reading Room.
- At a photocopier swipe your Reader Card through the attached Card Reader
- Wait for the Card Reader to register your account then follow the instructions
- When you have finished copying, press the FINISH button on the Card Reader
Printing system
You can print black and white pages from any computer or microform scanner in the reading room, by sending the document to print from your computer and then going to the Print Station to print it out.
- Select the print command on your computer
- Note the number of your computer (on the yellow label e.g. MRR13)
- Go to the Print Station which is located at the end of the block of computers

Use of personal copying equipment
You may bring your own copying equipment (e.g. digital cameras and scanners) into the Library. If you wish to attached your scanner to a computer, you will also need to bring in your own laptop.
You may use personal copying equipment only in the photocopy areas in the Main Reading Room, or in another area by prior arrangement with Library staff. There are no charges for copying collection material using your own equipment.

For all forms of copying, it is important to be aware of your obligations under Copyright legislation. In the photocopy areas of the Reading Rooms and beside all PCs there are signs advising you of these.
