Some ASGF subject gateways undertook work in the area of usability studies, mostly through user surveys or usability tests. This page provides information on such work, with links to relevant papers where available.

Agrigate Site Evaluation and Survey - August 1999

AVEL

User-Centred Evaluation and Design: a Subject Gateway Perspective - this paper, presented at the VALA 2002 Conference, details the methodologies that have been employed by AVEL to discover the needs of customers. It particularly focuses on heuristic evaluation and scenario based testing as useful analysis tools, discusses the results of usability investigations and AVEL responses to customer demands, and draws conclusions for future development.

AVEL: Australasian Virtual Engineering Library - Dynamic Webspace for Engineering and IT Professionals - a paper presented at the AusWeb 2001 Conference. It describes the evolution that AVEL has undergone in order fulfill, as well as anticipate, customer information requirements. It discusses the methods that were used to gauge the needs of customers and details the way that customers are using the site. The paper also outlines some of the current and future services that will meet these demands.

PictureAustralia

Website Usability as a Key Performance Indicator Monitoring and evaluating online services to improve customers’ experiences … PictureAustralia - a paper by Debbie Campbell, National Library of Australia, for the Performance Measures for Government Online Conference, 12 September 2001. The National Library undertook an extensive usability test before launching the PictureAustralia web site and is in the process of undertaking a major review of the site to improve customers’ experiences. The site was initially tested against a range of scenarios representative of the various target user groups.
