Art press clippings digitisation project

Project description: The art gallery's volumes of art-related clippings date from 1871 to the present. Along with the State Library of Victoria, they are the most complete and oldest collection of their type in Australia. Major aims and objectives of this project are to facilitate wider use of the collection by art researchers, improve preservation of the collection techniques and explore the resources required to undertake major digitisation.

Content: Photographs and typescripts.
Digitisation policy and priorities: No institutional digitisation policy but an online policy which is incorporated in the organisation's business plan. 1% of the collection is planned to be digitised by the end of 1998 and 5% by the end of 1999.
Timetable: Planned July 1998 - December 1998
Budget and funding: Funding internally and through corporate sponsorship - less than $A20,000.
Staff resources: Digitisation processes out-sourced to private company.
