Digitisation of audio and video materials project

Project participants: University of Queensland Library
Contact officer/s: Michael Fagg (email m.fagg@library.uq.edu.au or phone 07 336 52160)
Project description: The University of Queensland Library has an excellent collection of audio/visual material in the traditional analogue format. Our aim is to increase the flexibility and accessibility of this collection by purchasing items in the digital format (the library already provides access to a wide collection of multimedia CD-ROM's), as well as via a conversion project. The first stage, which is already underway, will be to set up a resource of multimedia hardware and software which will enable access to a wide range of digital format items. The second stage will be to identify those audio/visual items which are suitable for conversion to a digital format, complete the conversion process, and then make them available to library clients via the world wide web. For purely technical reasons emphasis will initially be given to audio recordings.
