Project description: Music Queensland is one of many outcomes of a key strategy detailed in Smart libraries build smart communities: Future directions of the State Library of Queensland, namely "increased community access to Queensland's cultural heritage resources".
Music Queensland provides online access to digital copies of historically significant music scores about Queensland. It allows clients to: "
  • search the database using multiple terms
  • view the music scores online
  • print copies of music scores for your own use
Music Queensland records will be available in MusicAustralia, the National Library's digital music collection.

Content: The collection includes music composed by a Queenslander, music published in Queensland, and music about Queensland. The collection focuses on historical sheet music published before 1930. Sound recordings have been commissioned by the State Library of Queensland and will be added to the collection in the future. The music is for the most part, both rare and unique and a valuable source of information about the social and musical history of Queensland

Timetable: The project is ongoing. The Music Queensland was launched in June 2004.
Budget and funding: The Music Queensland budget included pilot funding from NLA - $10 000 - with an additional $30,000 from the State Library's OPAL (On-line Public Access Libraries) program
