National Library of Australia

Percentage of collections recorded on the National Bibliographic Database

Original records and/or holdings, June 1999

This table has been extracted from the results of a major survey, by the Australian Library Collections Task Force (ALCTF), of participation in the National Bibliographic Database (NBD) by the National, State, Territory, academic, and special libraries.

Ray Choate from the University of Adelaide coordinated the survey amongst academic libraries, Robyn Collins from the State Library of South Australia coordinated the gathering of data from the National, State and Territory libraries, and Carol Murray from the CSIRO Black Mountain library took the lead on the special libraries sector.

The aims of these surveys were to:

This table has been produced from data extracted from the report in order to provide an overview of the status of contributions to and the comprehensiveness of the NBD.

From late 1999, libraries listed on the Australian Libraries Gateway will be able to provide figures on their contribution rates to the NBD, in a field specifically for this purpose. It is intended that tables similar to those below will then be periodically generated to provide an up to date snapshot of the status of the NBD. Until this process is implemented, libraries that wish to change the figures pertaining to their libraries should contact the Coordination Support Branch of the National Library - email csb@nla.gov.au.

SELECTED SPECIAL LIBRARIES

% of COLLECTIONS ON THE NBD

Note: These libraries represent only a small sample of all special libraries. The survey did not include all special libraries due to the numbers potentially involved. The Task Force chose to survey libraries that it judged were most likely to have unique collections. From the responses received, only those libraries that are members of KiNETICA, and thus might reasonably be expected to contribute data to the NBD, are included in this table.
