30/11/05 - Launch of the new Libraries Australia service
The new Libraries Australia service was implemented today, replacing the Kinetica service. I congratulate all of the staff who worked on this Project. Their skill, commitment and professionalism over the more than two years of this Project has been outstanding.
I thank the Libraries Australia Advisory Committee and the libraries who use the service for their strong support and encouragement throughout this Project. My thanks also go to the senior staff of the Library who gave their commitment to the priority of this Project.
The Library was also fortunate to have had software suppliers (OCLC PICA and Inquirion) who provided such quality products and who responded so well to the Library’s needs. Finally I would like to thank IBM Global Services for their thoroughly professional support and service since 1998.

Dear Colleagues
I am delighted to announce that Stage 2 of the Kinetica Redevelopment Project will be completed and the new Libraries Australia service launched on Wednesday 30 November.
The delivery of the new service represents the culmination of a two year project offering innovation in resource discovery, co-operative cataloguing and resource sharing to Australian libraries and the communities they serve.
I would like to take the opportunity to commend the team at the National Library who have worked hard to bring this complex project to fruition. I would also like to thank staff at Australian libraries and trainers who have provided valuable feedback and suggestions for service enhancement over the past two years.

25/05/05 - Small libraries can now search APAIS through Libraries Australia
Small libraries can now search APAIS through Libraries Australia and pay only for the searches they do. APAIS is the Australian Public Affairs Information Service, an online index to scholarly articles published in Australia since 1978 in the social sciences and humanities. Small libraries can search APAIS through Libraries Australia at a cost of $2.80 per search. Libraries Australia will bill each library and track usage of APAIS with regular reports. For the purpose of this offer, a small library is located in Australia and a member of LibrariesAustralia. The term small library does not include academic libraries, state libraries, the National Library or any of the libraries who are part of NSW.Net.
24/05/05 - Libraries Australia Document Delivery reciprocal defaults
Libraries Australia Document Delivery can now be configured to default a particular amount in the shipped cost field according to your librarys reciprocal inter-library loan agreements. For example, if your library has a reciprocal agreement with another library, and you do not charge each other for inter-library loans, you can now specify that the shipped cost default to $0 for that library.
This new feature will save libraries time and reduce the potential for error as you will no longer need to manually input the reciprocal cost. Non-reciprocal requests that your library supplies will continue to default a shipped cost according to the ILRS code. This service is only offered to supplying libraries.
If you are interested in taking up this offer, please contact us and be sure to include your library's NUC symbol and name.

10/03/05 - Accessing Libraries Australia through EndNote
Creating bibliographies using the vast resources of Libraries Australia has never been easier. Library users and researchers with access to both Endnote software and Libraries Australia can now download a connection file to Libraries Australia from the EndNote web site at http://www.endnote.com/support/enconnections.asp
EndNote is a software tool which facilitates the creation, management and storage of bibliographic references. Researchers who have an EndNote licence can open and search a range of online bibliographic databases and import records in a bibliography-ready format.
The connection file will enable users to open and search Libraries Australia through EndNote and import records to easily create bibliographies and databases of personal references for use in reports, theses, assignments or any document. National Library staff have liaised with EndNote to establish searching options similar to those provided through Libraries Australia.
If your library provides end-user access to Libraries Australia, whatever you currently use for authentication will apply and you should notify your clients if a login and password is required. Libraries wishing to take advantage of this facility may need to liaise with their IT sections to set it up.
