Workshops
Authorities
Cheryl Grant, State Library of New
South Wales
Bemal
Rajapatirana, National Library of Australia
This seminar style workshop will demonstrate the basic processes of creating authority records; setting up references; linking earlier to current form of heading; transferring documents between headings; and setting up name-title headings using the Kinetica Client.
There will be opportunities for discussing dilemmas such as whether to change the heading or the authority record, and strategies for approaching "messy" sequences of headings.
This will be informed by reference to: Kinetica policy; the standards base AACR2, LCRI, and LCSH; the use of LC for non-Australian headings; and the opportunities for proposing new headings.
Some background information will be provided about moves towards international authorities while strategies for importing authorities from LC, OCLC or Kinetica to the local catalogue will be examined.
