Questions without notice
Document Delivery
From John Pollard, University of NSW:
Why do we receive so many requests without call numbers?
In order to view requests with call numbers, libraries need to have included call numbers on their holdings statements on the National Bibliographic Database, rather than just "held". Kinetica encourages all libraries to record call numbers in their holdings record for the benefit of Interlibrary Loan staff.
From Unknown:
Would it not be possible for Kinetica to request all users to show full address and phone/email details on requests?
Kinetica encourages all users to edit their own address details in KDD. To edit your address, phone, email or ariel details click on location, edit own, change the relevant details and then click on submit.
From Unknown:
Why is it when we download requests we don't always receive the "NOTES"?
In KDD there are two different types of notes. If you choose "Send Yes" the note will be sent on to all libraries, if you choose "Send No" the note will only be seen by your library.
From Unknown:
Is there a link between the system generated expiry (not the expiry date) and the level requested (ie. Express would have an expiry of 1 hour before being moved on)?
The KDD system expiry date is currently only set for Core requests. This is an issue of which more detailed investigation is needed. The question will be taken to the Kinetica Document Delivery Expert Advisory Group for further discussion and policy decisions.
From Unknown:
Are there any guidelines for selecting the number of libraries in the rota related to the type of service level needed?
There are currently no guidelines for selecting the number of libraries in the rota related to the type of service level. It is up to the requesting library to decide how many libraries to include in the rota.
From Unknown:
When searching on KDD by ISBN, there is a problem with spaces and brackets when the ISBN is followed by an abbreviation such as paperback, as you are unable to truncate in KDD?
Sometimes ISBNs are input into the NBD incorrectly. For example, the ISBN 047114908X(pbk.) should contain a space between the ISBN and the (pbk.). This causes problems for searching, as the entire ISBN (complete with brackets and abbreviation) is indexed as a single "word". You can search these problem ISBNs from KDD by either inputting the entire "word" (complete with brackets and abbreviation), or by using the truncation symbol % (ie 047114908X%)
If in doubt, truncate.
