What’s to see?
The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACM.I) is the place to find out everything about the moving image. You will visit its Eyes, Lies and Illusions exhibition, which explores the ancestry of the moving image through an astonishing collection of rare optical media and artworks from the 16th to the 21st centuries.
The City Library is a very new library in a very old building. The remarkable makeover saw an historic 19th century warehouse building transformed into a dynamic, welcoming environment. In 2005 City Library won the Living City category of the annual Melbourne Awards, which recognise outstanding achievement in community development and business excellence.
The State Library of Victoria is one of Australia's oldest cultural institutions. It is the major reference and research library in Victoria, responsible for collecting and preserving Victoria's documentary heritage and making it available through a range of services and programs. Delegates will tour recently renovated historic buildings, glimpse treasures and hear about slv21, the strategic vision that will result in increased online services and digital access to collections, and an expanded gateway to the global information world.
RMIT University offers more than 200 TAFE and higher educational programs across a broad range of fields, in a number of locations in Melbourne and regional Victoria, as well as overseas. You will visit the RMIT Swanston Library at the City Campus, which has recently updated student areas, incorporating modular furniture, over 200 PCs, wireless network, LCD displays, and collaborative learning spaces.
How do I get there?
No visit to Melbourne would be complete without the odd trip on one of Melbourne’s iconic trams. Because the venues are all very close in and near the city, tour members will be provided with a free all day tram ticket, and a map showing where to get off to visit the five libraries. You will also be accompanied on your tour.
If you would like to go on the Libraries Tour, but are unable to get around via tram, please contact the Libraries Australia Help Desk and we will arrange alternative transport for you.
Take a break
The Libraries Tour is a full afternoon program. Have a break half way. You will be provided with a voucher for coffee and cake redeemable from the State Library of Victoria’s Mr Tulk Café, which is accessible from La Trobe Street and from the Library's front foyer.
How do I register for the Libraries Tour?
