Overview
The use of batch files is now the major method of contributing to the Australian National Bibliographic Database (ANBD). With continuous improvement and automation of processes, batch uploading has become more efficient. It is now possible to add, update and delete both bibliographic records and holdings using batchfiles either through FTP, by uploading from the RIS website, or by contacting the Libraries Australia Help Desk.
Benefits of batch loading
Batch loading of
records is a very efficient way of contributing to the ANBD. It is a free
service and is largely automated, saving your organisation time and resources,
while ensuring effective resource sharing for the entire Australian library
community. Here are some of the advantages of using our batchloading
services:
- You can do all your cataloguing on your local system and upload the data to the ANBD. This means your staff only have to be trained in the use of one system.
- You do not need the Libraries Australia Cataloguing Client to use Batch loading services.
- Holdings can be globally updated free of charge.
- Batch loading can be used to contribute records in non-MARC formats.
- You can send files to Libraries Australia as often as you wish, to ensure the currency of your records.
The following batch processing services are available:
- Libraries Australia Record Import Service: This service enables Libraries Australia customers to send files of bibliographic and/or holdings records to the ANBD, either by web upload or automatically via the Internet File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
- Metadata harvesting and Inmagic DB/Textworks: Data can be uploaded in non-MARC formats, such as Metadata or Inmagic DB/Textworks.
- Global Holdings update: This service enables customers to request global deletions or changes to existing holdings on the ANBD.
