The National Library of Australia has recently opened this Library Labs wiki space.
The Library commenced the development of a new discovery service in August 2008, with the aim of improving and replacing its current free search services to the public. There are currently eight of these services:
Libraries Australia free search service
The Library has also embarked on a new program to aggregate biographical metadata, the People Australia program. This data will support discovery of information in Australian web-based biographical services. The new discovery service will be the vehicle for searching this aggregated data.
Libraries Australia Document Delivery (LADD)
In Q4 2009 a new version of Libraries Australia Document Delivery, VDX version 4.1, will be implemented. It includes:
- Updated request management screens
- Configurable work queues
- Improvements to electronic document delivery
Libraries Australia Cataloguing
Libraries Australia Cataloguing Client (LACC)
In Q4 2009 a new version of the Libraries Australia Cataloguing Client, WinIBW version 3.3, will be distributed. It includes:
- Improvements to the layout of the user interface
- Improvements to the record copy function, including retaining 5XX fields
- An alert when other screens are opened during editing
- More useful buttons in print preview screen
- Fix to the Special Characters bar incorrectly resetting other toolbars
Libraries Australia Cataloguing System
In Q4 2009 a new version of the Libraries Australia Cataloguing System, CBS version 5.0, will be implemented. It includes:
- CBS Job Manager, which will enable staff of the Libraries Australia office to undertake tasks such as global changes which are currently performed by IT staff at the National Library or at OCLC Leiden
- Support for SRU Update instantaneous two-way link to/from WorldCat. SRU Update from the ANBD to WorldCat has already been implemented.
