Notice of Scheduled outage to deliver Libraries Australia Search Service improvement - Simultaneous Search of CJK - between 8.00AM and 1.00PM (AEST) on Tuesday, 7 June.

Dear Colleagues

Libraries Australia will be implementing system improvements to the Libraries Australia Search Service between 8.00AM and 1.00PM (AEST) on Tuesday, 7 June.

A significant improvement that will be delivered for our members will be simultaneous searching of Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK) character sets.

Libraries Australia contains metadata for large collections of Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK) language material and it has been difficult to provide intellectual access to this material with an English catalogue.  The Libraries Australia Search Service is being enhanced to incorporate simultaneous searching of:

  • Chinese Han, Simplified and Traditional character sets;
  • Japanese Kanji, Modern and Traditional character sets; and
  • Japanese, Hiragana and Katakana character sets.

During the implementation period, Libraries Australia Services will be temporarily interrupted or unavailable as follows:

  • The Libraries Australia Search interface will be available; but will be accessing an index that will not be updated while re-indexing occurs during this period
  • The Record Export Service (RES) and Products services will be unavailable
  • Files to the Record Import Service (RIS) will be queued and not imported until after the outage period

We look forward to delivering these improvements and apologise for any inconvenience.

Assistant Director, Libraries Australia Member Services | National Collections Access Division | National Library of Australia
