Short library names in Trove

Trove will soon display a short version of your library name on some pages. Short names will be limited to 20 characters and come from your ALG entry. To nominate your own shortened name before the new feature appears in Trove:

  1. Find your entry in the ALG – http://www.nla.gov.au/libraries
  2. Click Edit this record, enter your password and click Edit this page.
  3. Fill in your library’s new short name and click Submit these updated details.

If you’ve lost your password or need it reset you can contact ALG Administration.  After Tuesday 8 June, ALG Administration will add a short name on your behalf. You can modify this at any time using the steps above.

Short name guidelines:

  • Use your preferred acronym – the name should be meaningful to your library patrons and the general public (e.g. ‘UNSW Library’, ‘FaHCSIA Lib Services’).
  • It is alright to use ‘lib’ or ‘library’. Full stops are unnecessary (e.g. ‘Claremont Library’ or ‘Joondalup Pub Lib’, not ‘Joondalup Pub. Lib.’).
  • If you only have one library, use your organisation name (e.g. ‘Hutchins School’).
  • Avoid unnecessary abbreviation (e.g. ‘National Library’ rather than ‘Nat Lib Aust’).
  • Make sure if there are multiple collections, it is recognisable as your library collection (e.g. ‘Powerhouse Mus Lib’ rather than ‘Powerhouse Museum’.
